FC Dallas falls to the New York Red Bulls in 'Wild' Card Matchup

FC Dallas 0, New York Red Bulls 2

The New York Red Bulls and Dallas FC squared off in Pizza Hut Park for the first Wild Card game of the post season in front of 10,017 fans. FC Dallas came out strong against NY and bossed much of the first half and NY was left with working the counter-attack. FC Dallas' best chance for a score occurred in the 40' when Zach Lloyd sent a pin point cross to Jackson in front of the 6 yard box but his header went high and wide of the net. New York seemed to gain the momentum in the second half.
Second half substitute, Mehdi Ballouchy, made an almost immediate impact as he supplied a superb ground pass into the 6 yard box that Joel Lindpere was able to get to between the two central defenders and poke it past Dallas' Kevin Hartman. The game took an interesting turn in the 79' when NY's Jan Gunnar Solli made a double leg tackle from behind on Dallas' Daniel Hernandez to earn a quick Red Card. Up a man, Dallas tried to push the game forward but was caught on a counterattack by NY. NY Defender, Tim Ream, launched a long pass up field that Thierry Henry skillfully played forward and beat both Daniel Hernandez and Kevin Hartman for the 98' goal to seal the game for NY. New York now heads to LA to face the Galaxy in a two leg play-off bout on Saturday.
