Eric Wynalda to Coach Atlanta

In what has been a long time coming, Eric Wynalda has been appointed to coach a professional team. The Atlanta Silverbacks of the North American Soccer League has chosen Wynalda to be the team's interim head coach and team adviser.

At present, Wynalda will be will serve in team decision making processes , including the search for the team's  new permanent head coach. The void that Wynalda is filling was left by the departures of former Director of Soccer Rodrigo Rios and former head coach Alex Pineda Chacon.

After the Wynalda led Cal FC made such noise in the US Open Cup, this seems a sensible bit of news to come out. Cal FC was composed of amateur players with professional aspirations and the team defeated two professional sides, including Major League Soccer's Portland Timbers.

Wynalda will remain a member of FOX Soccer and his duties with Atlanta are not expected to interfere. His first match at the helm will be Tuesday night in a league match against the Carolina RailHawks.
